Illinois Labor Law FAQs

What labor law posters are required in Illinois?

Labor law posters that are required in Illinois include minimum wage posters, Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act posters, Illinois Equal Pay Act posters, the Illinois Victims' Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA) posters, and more. In addition to these, several federal posters, like Equal Employment Opportunity and Family Medical Leave, are also required.

Where should labor law posters be displayed?

Posters must be displayed in a prominent and accessible location where all employees, including remote workers who visit the office, can easily see them. Common areas include break rooms or near time clocks.

What happens if I don’t display required labor law posters?

Employers can face fines and penalties for failing to display the required posters. Illinois OSHA fines can cost a business thousands of dollars per violation, depending on severity. Additional fines may apply under Illinois-specific labor laws.

What is the Paid Leave for All Workers Act?

This bill, passed in 2024, requires most businesses to provide at least 1 hour of paid leave for every 40 hours that an employee has worked. Employees can use this leave for any reason, and aren’t required to find a replacement for their position. This act allows employees to earn up to 40 hours of paid leave each year. Employees and employers can read more about this act on one of our Illinois required workplace posters.

When do Illinois employees need to be paid?

Under the Illinois Wage Payment and Collection Act (IWPCA), most employees will need to be paid at least twice a month. These payments need to be completed within 13 days of the pay period. Furthermore, if an employee leaves their job, they must receive their final paycheck by the next regularly scheduled payday. Information about the IWPCA will be available on your Illinois and federal labor law poster.
