Overview

Effective July 17, 2026, Nebraska has released an updated Minimum Wage notice through the Nebraska Department of Labor. The update introduces a new youth minimum wage rate for employees ages 14 to 15, along with a training wage for new employees ages 16 to 19.

What Changed

The Nebraska Department of Labor has issued an updated Minimum Wage notice effective July 17, 2026. While the standard minimum wage rate remains at $15.00 per hour (unchanged from January 1, 2026), the updated notice now formally establishes a youth minimum wage of $13.50 per hour for employees ages 14 to 15, and a training wage of $13.50 per hour for new employees ages 16 to 19 for their first 90 days of employment.

Key Details Included in the Notice

  • Standard Minimum Wage (Effective July 17, 2026): $15.00 per hour (unchanged from January 1, 2026), applicable to employers with four or more employees.
  • Youth Minimum Wage: Employers may pay $13.50 per hour to employees who are 14 or 15 years of age. This rate increases to $13.70 per hour on January 1, 2030, and increases 1.5% every fifth year thereafter.
  • Training Wage: Employers may pay a training wage of $13.50 per hour for the first 90 days of employment to new employees who are 16 to 19 years old and are not seasonal or migrant workers.
  • Tipped Employees: The combined amount of hourly wages and gratuities must equal or exceed the applicable minimum wage. The direct hourly wage paid must be at least $2.13 per hour.
  • Student Learners: Employers participating in a bona fide vocational training program may pay student learners at least 75% of the applicable minimum wage rate.
