New York City’s Earned Sick Time Act

Description
Under New York City's Earned Safe and Sick Time Act (Protected Time Off Law), employees have a right to protected time off. Employers must provide the written notice of protected time off rights to employees in their primary languages when they begin employment or when their rights change. Employers must also post the notice in the workplace in an area that is visible and accessible to employees in English and in any other languages employees in that workplace speak.
NYC’s Department of Consumer and Worker Protection (DCWP) updated the Notice of Rights on February 22, 2026. New York City NYC Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) is now Protected Time Off. Employers must post and give each employee this updated notice.
