Since the beginning of 2024, there have been over 70 state-mandated changes to labor laws. While there is no fixed number of required changes annually, on average, more than 80 mandatory updates occur each year.

Some of the most recent labor law updates in 2024 include:

  • Employment Development Department (EDD) Notice to Employees: Updated in May to include new direct links for employees to apply to programs like Unemployment Insurance, State Disability Insurance, and Paid Family Leave

  • Supplemental Minimum Wage poster: Required for fast food restaurant employees covered by AB 1228, who must be paid at least $20 per hour as of April 1.

  • Pregnant Workers Fairness Act: Federal law updated in July requiring "reasonable accommodations" to qualified workers.

  • Victims' Economic Security and Safety Act (VESSA): Illinois law updated in Aug expanding leave reasons related to violence.
